Requesens Castle (Cantallops)

9th century Located within the Albera Natural Park, it is located near the municipality of La Jonquera, in Alt Empordà, 7 km east of the town of Cantallops.

The oldest document that mentions Requesens Castle dates from June 30, 859, when the only county of Empúries-Rosselló still existed.

The large county of which Requesens was part, which covered all of present-day Empordà and Northern Catalonia, was separated at the end of the 10th century into two new counties: Empúries and Rosselló.

At the end of the 1950s, the Requesens farm was acquired by its last and current owners: two merchants from the Alt Empordà, who later left the farm as an inheritance to their respective families. At that time, they only bought the farm for forestry, but ten years later they were forced to buy the castle as well.

Currently, Requesens has received attention again, and the opening to the public has been regulated through a system of visits.
