Chapel of Mare de Déu del Port

CHAPEL OF THE HARBOUR VIRGIN 17th century

According to legend, the Harbour Chapel was built in the 17th century by one Joan Tesserres who, having survived a heavy storm out at sea, promised to build a chapel at the place where his boat came in to shore. He landed up in Llançà port and built his chapel on that same site.

On one side of the Chapel of the Harbour Virgin is the old town cemetery and on the other side is a pine grove where a popular outdoor gathering is held every year in the month of September.
